My name is Amelia Fenner-Prowle and I have recently finished my Level 3 apprenticeship in Digital Marketing at Brookfield.
I feel I have been very lucky in my apprenticeship experience as I was welcomed into the company with open arms despite knowing little to nothing about the digital marketing world, the applications I would have to use and the areas of marketing that I would need to be able to show that I was competent in.
Over the course of the 15 months at Brookfield, the team have been supportive and helpful with anything I need. If I was stuck in a certain area of marketing, such as an email marketing campaign, then someone in the team would sit with me and explain what I needed to do. They were very welcoming when I first joined and have been very patient and supportive of me and my apprenticeship.
• What skills have you learned?
I have learnt a lot whilst doing my apprenticeship with Brookfield. Thanks to my Marketing Manager, Ana, I was able to learn the ins and outs of social media marketing. She helped me with social media ad campaigns, content writing for various platforms and clients, as well as scheduling and boosting posts. With the help of the Digital Marketing team, I was able to learn how to make and amend website pages, complete email marketing campaigns using MailChimp, and how to apply best practice SEO to websites.
• Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?
I decided it would be beneficial for me to take the apprenticeship route as I believed it would fit better with my way of learning. Learning the theory side with my apprenticeship company and then learning the practical side on the job was an even balance for me.
• What can you do now that you couldn’t do before?
As I came to Brookfield with limited knowledge of digital marketing, there is a lot that I can do now that I couldn’t do before. I can now create and amend website pages, create social media ads for Facebook and Instagram and I can create email marketing campaigns with a deeper knowledge of MailChimp. I also have knowledge and understanding of best practise SEO and know how to implement this along with a basic understanding of PPC.
• What have you enjoyed the most?
There are many things that I have enjoyed during my apprenticeship, one of which is developing my knowledge and understanding of the digital marketing world. I also enjoy the more creative work such as creating artwork for social media posts, designing email marketing campaigns and also creating website pages. Another thing that I have enjoyed during my time so far at Brookfield is working with the team as we all help each other and share our knowledge. Brookfield has also provided amazing team building and bonding exercises and trips. For example, the whole office went away for a weekend camping trip where we canoed, went on a tour of a cider orchard and participated in exercises that helped bond our team.
• What have you found the most challenging?
What I find the most challenging is analysing data and understanding what it means. Over time and with more training from our digital analyst, I hope to have better knowledge and understanding.
